American University of Sharjah (AUS)

Founded in 1997 by His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qassimi, Member of the Supreme Council of the United Arab Emirates and Ruaus_imgler of Sharjah, the American University of Sharjah (AUS) has grown rapidly since its inception. Today a complex of stunning buildings on a beautiful campus hosts approximately 5,000 students from 80 nations and a highly qualified and experienced full-time faculty of more than 330 dedicated individuals.

Located in University City, Sharjah, United Arab Emirates, AUS is a not-for-profit, independent, coeducational institution of higher education formed on American models but thoroughly grounded in Arab culture.

The university offers 22 bachelor’s degrees, 39 minors and eight master’s degrees programs through the College of Arts and Sciences, College of Engineering, School of Architecture and Design, and School of Business and Management. Reflecting the rapid pace of infrastructural development in the region, the College of Engineering (CEN) is the largest unit on campus with the greatest number of students registered. The School of Business and Management (SBM) is next, followed by the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) and the School of Architecture and Design (SA&D). Business administration and civil engineering are the most popular majors.
The university is licensed in the United States by the Department of Education of the State of Delaware. It is accredited by the Commission on Higher Education of the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools (3624 Market Street, Philadelphia, PA 19104, 215 662 5606). AUS is also licensed by the UAE Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, and all undergraduate and graduate programs have been awarded either accreditation or accreditation-eligible status. All six of the bachelor’s degree programs in the College of Engineering are accredited by ABET in the United States.
AUS is renowned throughout the region for its excellent standard of education. Its alumni have been admitted to graduate studies at some of the most competitive and prestigious universities in the world, including Harvard, Columbia and MIT.

Students are encouraged to work along side their professors in conducting research pertaining to their respective fields of study. As a result, AUS students have won top honors in both national and international competitions.

The AUS library is one of the most impressive buildings on campus. With an area of over 10,000 square meters, the beautifully-designed, state-of-the-art, three-story library is the first of its kind in the region. Since the inception, the AUS library was envisaged as a leading center for research and knowledge, further strengthening the university’s role as a premier institution of higher learning in the Middle East.
AUS also places great stress on the development of the non-academic aspect of a student’s university life. Students are encouraged to participate in all manner of extra-curricular activities. The AUS Sports Complex is a state-of-the-art facility that features an Olympic-size indoor swimming pool, a fitness center and various indoor and outdoor courts.
