American University of Armenia

The American University of Armenia (AUA) is an independent and private non-profit institution affiliated with the University of California. The AUA is accredited by the WASC Senior College and University Commission, 985 Atlantic Avenue, #100, Alameda, CA 94501510.748.9001.

The American University of Armenia opened its doors in 1991 and provides graduate education in Business, Management, Economics, Industrial Engineering, Computer and Information Sciences, Political Science and International Affairs, Public Health, Law, and Teaching English as a Foreign Language, as well as bachelor’s programs in Business, Computer Science and English & Communications. The use of English as the language of instruction is intended to facilitate communication between graduates of AUA and their colleagues throughout the world and to attract an international faculty and student body.

Parallel to its academic programs, the AUA established centers to promote research allied to its academic curriculum to help students develop hands-on research skills and tools as well as have a direct impact on the social, economic and political development of Armenia. The University’s research centers now include the Center for Business Research and Development, the Engineering Research Center, the Turpanjian Center for Policy Analysis, the Acopian Center for the Environment, the Zvart Avedisian Onanian Center for Health Services Research, the Center for Research and Development in Applied Linguistics, the Center for Creative Writing and the Legal Research Center. Additionally, the University recently opened the Entrepreneurship and Product Innovation Center (EPIC), which primarily operates as a tech startup incubation space.

Many AUA programs have relationships with top-tier U.S. universities in a variety of fields. Renowned resident and visiting international faculty from the U.S., Canada, Europe, and Armenia bring a unique global perspective to the classroom. The exchange between faculty members and students is based on intellectual openness. AUA students are highly motivated and are encouraged to formulate, critically and creatively, their individual paths of understanding and to pursue diversity in knowledge. Students from over 30 countries including the U.S., Lebanon, Syria, Iran, Russia, and India and throughout Europe, provide a global academic experience that fosters an appreciation of a variety of cultural perspectives.

The AUA provides a safe and welcoming environment, modern campus facilities, and expert student and faculty services. As a public service to the community, the AUA also provides courses through its Extension Program.
